Safeguarding policy.

The Yorkshire Sikh Forum is committed to safeguarding the welfare of every child, young person and vulnerable adult who attends a Forum event, takes part in a Forum programme or interacts with a Forum volunteer. This is not a procedural box-tick — it is one of the Forum's founding responsibilities to the community it serves.

Our commitment

Designated Safeguarding Lead

The Forum's Designated Safeguarding Lead is [TBC by committee]. The Lead is the first point of contact for any safeguarding concern and is responsible for liaising with the statutory services where required.

Contact: safeguarding@yorkshiresikhforum.org

Volunteers and DBS checks

Volunteers in roles involving direct, regular contact with children or vulnerable adults — including the Youth Programme and any one-to-one mentoring — are required to hold an enhanced DBS check obtained through the Forum or its partner organisations.

Reporting a concern

If you are worried about the welfare of a child, young person or vulnerable adult at a Forum event:

  1. In an emergency or if anyone is in immediate danger — call 999.
  2. Otherwise, contact the Designated Safeguarding Lead immediately by emailing safeguarding@yorkshiresikhforum.org or speaking to any committee member on the day.
  3. You can also contact the NSPCC helpline on 0808 800 5000or your local authority children's services.
